Koons: High-priest of banality

Koons took over the Schirn Kunsthalle (art gallery) Frankfurt and infused the antiquity of Leibieghaus Skulpturen Sammlung. The Schirn’s promo literature calls the Leibieghaus infusion a dialogue between Koon’s and the historical exhibits “spanning 5,000 years of sculpture” , I call it an effective gimmick. Conceptual art can, sometimes, be alienating, this gimmick was a way of making Koon’s accessible. Both exhibitions feature all the Koon classics including the contrived “Made in Heaven” series. Ah, the “Made in Heaven” series; porn in nature, creatively licensed by heavy dose of interpretation!
